‘We Are Proud’ 2012

A Song For Preston!

‘We Are Proud’ was written for the 1992 guild by schoolteachers Gary Cunliffe and Ian Gray. If you are in your late 20s or even 30... you may have been in the 1992 schools’ pageant in Avenham Park and sung this as the finale to the show. New lyrics were added to the song in 2001 to support the bid for city status.

Well... in July 2012 86 pupils from Queen’s Drive primary school in Preston went to Preston College to use the new state of the art Media Centre to record their vocals for the new 2012 version of ‘We Are Proud.’ It was a fabulous experience for all and you are watching the official video story of the day. Back in school a smaller group of pupils later recorded a new version of the traditional song ‘Auld Lang Syne, with new guild lyrics, whilst a larger group of children told us of their hopes and dreams for the future for guild in 2032. We were proud to release these recordings as a 4 track CD to celebrate Preston Guild 2012.

In the video you saw children using cameras to interview each other and record their hopes for the future, what makes them proud, what they like about Queen’s Drive and what they like about Preston. The film below is the result. Thanks to Paul Flannery and Mark Barlow of Preston College for making us so welcome.
